Bugs

I noticed that I mostly crash now when I am trying new stuff or showing off.  The neighbors' yard man watched me walk away with the drone following me at around 3 ft above ground.  I was flying by camera and still ain't got that down yet.  He hollers, "It's gonna crash!" and of course it hit bare lantana branches that I could not see on the fenceline.

So I picked up the drone and there was a prop missing.  I started to look and brush to find it when these fellows(see below) got my attention by buzzing my face.  At least they did not go to war with me and so encouraged, I kept looking with my face a foot away from the nest.

The yard guy came over to see why I was taking so long and I pointed them out just as he inadvertently  kicked a yellow jacket nest seven feet away on the same fence line.  They all went to war with him as he retreated so I kept looking for my prop as they did not seem to mind me.

After a moment he came back and I still have yet to find my prop.  He told me I was going to get hit by the wasps but I told him that we had come to an understanding that he was the bad guy, not I. Neither of them had dibs on the smarts department. 

Anyhow, he does not believe me and comes over to look whereupon the wasps get irate at him, you know the big quick moving object, and give chase.  I looked for a bit longer while he retired to get the requisite firepower to combat the insects on his fence line.

Antithetical Towards Its Reason for Existence

 The government actions in the United States, federal, state, and local by far and large towards the Kung Flu has been antithetical in regards to their very reason to be.  We the people need to cow the leviathan and bring it back into line according to the constitution provided by our founding fathers.

Unconstitutional Proclamations by Louisiana Governor Bell Edwards


"LDH and the State Fire Marshal received complaints on July 21 and July 22 indicating that the restaurant had posted notices on its front door and on social media saying it was not requiring the wearing of masks or face coverings by employees or customers.

An LDH inspection on July 27 confirmed the presence of the described front door sign and that Firehouse BBQ was not requiring employees or customers to wear masks or face coverings. Upon completion of the inspection and receipt of the inspection report, the owner of Firehouse BBQ made it clear the restaurant would not be complying with the Governor's proclamations."

The Louisiana Attorney General, Jeff Landry, has published his opinion on this matter as unconstitutional and unenforceable.  Furthermore, he warned law enforcement and Fire Marshals in specific that any enforcement actions under color of law may make them personally liable.

Bread and Circus Provisions

After a hard days work, I walked over to the Cafe Vermilionville for a drink while I awaited my ride back home.  Unfortunately, they were setting up for a private event and I was not dressed appropriately.  So, I walked over to Bread and Circus Provisions as I had never been there before and there was an outdoor setup.  

I ordered a double gin and tonic but they had none of the provisions I asked for; namely Tanqueray or Bombay Blue Sapphire.  They did have the cheap stuff but even at "Happy Hour", I was charged $18 and change for my drink.  I tossed in an extra dollar for the tip, including the change.

The drink was rather tasty and included two lime wedges.

Wearing a Mask - or Not

Along with my Catholic and public university schooling, I am a voracious reader and an autodidact.  I find great joy in learning and when I need to apply reason the divers subjects I cover allow me to do so with not-undeserved confidence.

There are only two ways to defeat a virus, immunity or vaccination.  In the current Kung Flu pandemic we in these United States were asked to help hospitals from being overloaded by restricting our movements and gatherings.  That time has come and gone.  Some states are now going over the line where our individual liberties are drawn, exceeding their constitutional or legal authority.

Comet NEOWISE July 2020 Viewing

I will be out this evening and if I am very lucky I will be able to see the comet.

"When and where to look in the morning As a morning object, the comet's best views will come during a three-day stretch on the mornings of July 11, 12 and 13, when it will stand 10 degrees above the northeast horizon, 80 minutes before sunrise — the beginning of nautical twilight. Your clenched fist held at arm's length measures approximately 10 degrees in width. So, on these three mornings, the head of Comet NEOWISE will appear about "one fist" up from the northeast horizon.

The sky should appear reasonably dark at that time with only the light of the last quarter moon providing any interference. As the minutes tick off, the comet will be getting higher, but the dawn sky will be getting increasingly brighter as well.

After July 13, NEOWISE will drop rapidly lower and swing more toward the north-northeast. By July 18, it will appear only 5 degrees above the horizon at the start of nautical twilight. And only a few mornings later its altitude will have become too low to see it at all in pre-sunrise sky.

But as its morning visibility diminishes, there is good news: Comet NEOWISE will become prominent in the evening sky after sunset. That will also mean a much larger audience will be able to see it during "prime-time" viewing hours instead of having to awaken during the wee hours of the early morning.

Serendipity and a Cure for Parkinson's Disease

On August 14, 2018 my mother, Gara Anderson, died from complications due to Parkinson's disease.  Aunt Athalee, her sister, had died seven months earlier on January 11, 2018.  Here, they are pictured while they awaited chelation therapy in St. Martinville the previous year.

Today in the news I came across an article article that read, "Moreover, even though the PTB-silencing treatment was only administered once, the mice did not show any symptoms of Parkinson’s disease for the remainder of their lifetime."

I hope this leads very quickly to a treatment leading to a cure for these terrible diseases so that those suffering now may be whole again.

Accidental discovery leads to Parkinson’s disease cure in mice

"Once researchers realized that they could easily create neurons from other types of cells, they decided to see if the method could be used to treat neurodegenerative diseases, such as Parkinson’s disease. In Parkinson’s, dopamine cells in the brain die. Thus, to assess their method, the researchers used a chemical that poisons dopamine neurons and creates symptoms of Parkinson’s disease in mice.

After using the chemical to kill dopamine neurons in the mice, researchers silenced PTB. They found that 30% of astrocytes turned into neurons. Moreover, these newly generated neurons seemed to grow normally and even began to send connections to other parts of the brain, like normal neurons.

When the researchers looked at mouse behavior, they also found that silencing PTB completely restored movement function. Moreover, even though the PTB-silencing treatment was only administered once, the mice did not show any symptoms of Parkinson’s disease for the remainder of their lifetime.

“I was stunned at what I saw,” said study co-author Dr. William Mobley, Distinguished Professor of Neurosciences at UCSD’s School of Medicine. “This whole new strategy for treating neurodegeneration gives hope that it may be possible to help even those with advanced disease.”"

Politics and Medicine are a Bad Mix

After President Trump suggested that you might ask your doctor about a treatment for the Kung Flu that involved hydroxychloroquine, his political enemies, which include much of televised media and some pharmaceutical boards swung into action in order to suppress the treatments.

Anecdotal accounts, otherwise known as data or evidence, from doctors showed that using hydroxychloroquine along with zinc and Z-Paks were effective treatments for the Kung Flu.

"A major medical magazine has retracted a study it published that claimed to have found increased mortality in coronavirus patients who took the drug hydroxychloroquine.
The Lancet issued the retraction Thursday afternoon after successive days of questions regarding the study and the data underpinning it, both of which came from the medical analytics company Surgisphere.

That study, published on May 22, determined that hydroxychloroquine – a drug repeatedly touted by President Trump as a possible viable treatment for the coronavirus – was "associated with an increased risk of in-hospital mortality" when given to COVID-19 patients. Those conclusions so alarmed the World Health Organization that it announced at the end of last month that it would be pausing its own hydroxychloroquine trials "while the data is reviewed by the Data Safety Monitoring Board."


Yet on Thursday, The Lancet issued a notice that "three of the authors of the paper ... have retracted their study. They were unable to complete an independent audit of the data underpinning their analysis. As a result, they have concluded that they 'can no longer vouch for the veracity of the primary data sources'." ""

I am ostensibly middled-aged and so old enough to remember George Wallace.  Laura Bassett's ignorance and that of her editors at GQ Magazine were on full display in a recent article.

Stand Down

Here in Lafayette, Louisiana, the goings on with the Kung Flu have not changed my routine in any way shape or form.  Of course, I am hardly a good example as I work mostly from home and prefer home-cooked meals to eating out.   I live near one of the three bridges in town so Pinhook Road here is normally very busy at certain times of the weekday.  The decrease in traffic was the most noticeable thing to me for the first couple of weeks.

Anyhow, I have been watching the goings on in various other parts of the country and I rather liked this young man's approach to the unconstitutional thuggery being exhibited by his government.

    Our work was interrupted by a teammate shouting, “Oh shit, shit! We have to go NOW!” We looked up. There, halfway between us and the Beartooths Mountains, was a featureless black wall. It grew in height perceptibly as it drew closer, second by second. We started to cover up the site, but our teammate kept hurrying us on. In just a few minutes we were running back to camp. Blotting out the western sky from horizon to zenith was that black wall. Up close it wasn’t featureless. It was a dark, roiling mass of dust and debris hundreds of feet high, like a color negative of an avalanche.

    I don’t remember if I fell down, but I do remember that I ended up on the ground at some point, because I crawled underneath the locked department van. Most of the others went for the tents instead. Just as I was getting situated under the van, the rain started to fall. The dust had cleared but the wind hadn’t relented at all, and the rain was pelting the ground at a 30° angle in torrential sheets. Glenn Storss got to the van, unlocked it, and let me in, along with two or three other excavators who had opted for the vehicles over the tents. We made the right decision; the tents were having a bad time of it. None had blown away entirely; the tent pegs were hammered right in to rocks. But the less professional and more recreational tents, like my trio of tents, couldn’t cope with the wind. One after another, the tent poles snapped in each.

    After a bit, we started to hear hard *pings* as objects ricocheted off the van, and we realized we were getting hail, steadily increasing in abundance and size. The vehicles rocked ominously and the hail fell, and the wind blew and blew and blew and we were silent. Gradually, the storm abated.

    We went out to check on Mason Jane Milam, who had remained in her tent. As we approached, she emerged, smiling ruefully, streaked with green and brown. Her tent was filled with 15 to 20 centimeters of sludge of the same colors. Cow patties had been sent aloft when the storm first hit, blowing them into Mason’s door-less tent despite all her efforts. When the rain came next, it had rehydrated the excrement and turned her tent into a bathtub of bovine sewage. "

Hong Kong

I have been following events in Hong Kong for some time.  I believe that the U.S. will have a war with China, although I pray not.  Right now, President Trump is doing a great job on the trade and economic front.
